egret chick

cattle egret chick

Cattle egret chick Ardea ibis IMG 7383 - This young bird, sitting forlornly among tall riverbank grasses, was looking far from happy for one good reason. It had fallen from its treetop nest and, abandoned by its parents, it was destined to die of starvation. It's a fate that befalls many of the egret chicks that are born in large colonies, and while humans could play the role of Good Samaritans and rescue each abandoned chick, the harsh reality is that nature has to take its course and allow the fittest of the species, and those that know better than to jump before they can fly, to survive.
