friar bird feeding upside down

noisy friar bird philemon corniculatus feeding on red flowers

Noisy friarbird Philemon corniculatus IMG 6276 - Friarbirds have some amazing acrobatic skills and will almost do anything to reach nectar-laden flowers. And if hanging upside down by their toes is the only way to reach a flower, then that's exactly what they'll do. This bird was feeding on the red flowers of a bottlebrush tree, Callistemon citrinus, in the Tondoon Botanic Gardens in the Queensland city of Gladstone.
