Emu and chicks

male emu with two tiny chicks by water of paroo river currawinya national park outback queensland australia

Emu and chicks IMG 0761 - It is the male emu who has the task of raising and tending to his chicks, with his mate's only contribution to the survival of the species being to lay a clutch of eggs. This bird and his group of chicks, who had made the Currawinya National Park in outback Queensland their home, arrived, early in the morning, to quench their thirst at the muddy Paroo River that is the artery that brings life to this remote outback region and to its great diversity of wildlife. Most of the chicks wandered off to explore the world around them, leaving only these two tiny birds in the company of their doting parent.
