Lewin's honeyeater

Lewin's honeyeater at bird bath

Lewin's honeyeater, Meliphaga lewinii, IMG 2477 - Insects, which are occasionally caught in flight, form part of this bird’s diet, as does the nectar produced by flowers, and although Lewin’s honeyeaters prefer to feast on small fruits and berries, they’ll also peck at larger soft fruit such as pawpaws, much to the dismay of gardeners who were themselves looking forward to a feast of this delicious tropical fruit.
