Red winged parrot

Australian red winged parrot

Red-winged parrot, Aprosmictus erythropterus, IMG 2830 - The red-winged parrot’s species name, ‘erythopterus’, is derived from the ancient Greek words ‘erythros’, meaning red, and ‘pteron’, meaning wing, for bright red wings are the most prominent feature of this colourful bird, which is also known as a ‘crimson-winged’ or ‘blood-winged’ parrot. This colourful character was feeding on a backyard lawn in Queensland.
