White ibis

white ibis wading in blue water

White ibis Threskiornis molucca IMG 8506 - Australian white ibis, despite spending most of their lives in and around water, often have very grubby plumage, and this bird, reflected in the blue waters of a lagoon at the NSW coastal town of Nambucca Heads, was no exception. With their long curved beaks ibis probe the water, the mud beneath it, and any damp soil for any of the small creatures that they feed upon, and wherever food is in abundance, they thrive in large numbers.
