Australian rainbow lorikeet Haematopus longirostris IMG 6968 - This brightly coloured and easily recognisable Australian bird feeds on nectar, and many gardeners plant shrubs, such as the Grevillea in this photo, to encourage them to share their urban environment. And when food's on offer, these lorikeets,  which are among the most colourful of the many species of parrots that call Australia home, arrive in large numbers.
