D704E    This wooden railway bridge at the NSW town of Gundagai was constructed in 1903. With a length of  819 metres (half a mile), it is the longest timber truss bridge ever built in Australia. It straddles an area that is prone to flooding, and allowed townsfolk to breath a sigh of relief when rains arrived, for the bridge saved the town from complete isolation. It has been replaced with a modern road in recent years and is no longer in use.
