335    The flow of the diminutive Torrens River that mutters through the heart of the city of Adelaide, the capital of the Australian state of South Australia, has been interrupted by a weir to create Lake Torrens. Public parklands and gardens along the riverbank attract many visitors who stroll, jog, or cycle along the pathways that follow the water's course. The landscape here changes with the seasons, with autumn bringing a flush of golden colours as the leaves of deciduous trees take on their gaudy hues.
