F444E2 Sunset over the
still waters of Lake Pamamaroo near the town of Menindee in the Australian
outback. This vast man made lake owes its existence to the waters of the
Darling River that have been diverted to create a water storage reservoir for
the irrigation of regional crops, primarily cotton. The lake, home to large
numbers of water birds, is also a major tourist attraction that draws those who
love the quiet pleasures that nature and who come to camp on its wooded banks,
to fish, and to dabble about in small boats.
