Darling Murray River junction with boat, Wentworth 437 E

437E   Australia faces its worst drought in living memory, and the Murray and Darling Rivers on which much of the nation

depends for water - for both domestic and  agricultural use - are dying. This scene appears to create a lie of  the previous

statement, for here, at the junction of these two great rivers near the Australian outback town of Wentworth, there appears

to be an abundance of water. This illusion is due only to the fact that a nearby lock holds back the river's flow. And thanks

to the lock, river boats, such as the historic paddle steamer Coonawarra, can continue to cruise along the waterways with

their cargoes of tourists.
