Lake Hume NSW IMG 2329 - This man-made lake, which covers an area more than six times that of Sydney Harbour, was created when the waters of the Murray River were blocked by the Hume Dam near Albury - Wodonga. The dam was constructed over a 17 year period from 1919 to 1936 and was named after Hamilton Hume, one of the first Europeans to see and cross the Murray River, which is Australia's longest and most important waterway.
