Paroo River at Currawinya

paroo river in currawinya national park in outback queensland australia

Paroo River at Currawinya National Park IMG 1726 - This tranquil waterway is a vital artery that brings life to the Australian outback. The Paroo never runs dry, even during the most severe of droughts, and although it might occasionally be reduced to little more than a series of murky waterholes, its presence allows a wide range of native birds and animals to survive in the woodlands that shade its banks. Currawinya National Park, where this image was captured, lies along the road that links the south-western Queensland town of Eulo (with a population of merely 40 people) to the even smaller town of Hungerford that lies further south on the state's border with NSW.
