Brazilian Red Cloak

purple and white flower of orchid Vanda Arambeen

Megaskepasma erythrochlamys IMG 5967 - If you can't pronounce the botanical name of this sub-tropical evergreen shrub, don't worry, you're not alone. It's commonly known as 'Brazilian Red Cloak', and although that's far easier to remember, it's not an accurate description of a plant that originated in Venezuela. The conspicuous red features of the plant are not its flowers. They are bracts that surround the true flowers, the white petals of which can be seen in this image.
