A carnivorous plant that is frequently referred to as ' Pitcher plant ', Nepenthes feeds on insects that fall into the pitcher and are trapped in the water it contains. As a tropical rainforest plant, these insectivorous species can only be grown in an outdoor garden in warm climates where they require a sheltered, shady position and adequate moisture. In cooler areas they can be successfully cultivated in a glasshouse.
