Sarracenia D233

D233  Close-up of opening of pitcher of Sarracenia species - a carnivorous plant. These plants that, in their natural environment, grow in swamps and marshes, obtain their nutrients from the decomposing bodies of insects that fall into their pitcher shaped trap and drown in the fluid that it contains. They can be grown in cultivation by standing the pots in which they are planted in a shallow tray of water to provide an environment that replicates, to some degree, their natural boggy habitat.
