BACK TO PHOTO GALLERY OF FLOWERS

D646   The unusual greenish yellow  flower of a carnivorous pitcher plant - a Sarracenia species. Its stamens and pollen are concealed behind the large flat disc that is suspended from the heart of the flower. Sarracenias, in their native habitat, thrive in marsh and swamp areas, but can be successfully grown in a greenhouse or outdoors in warm climates, providing that their roots are kept moist at all times.
