074   A traveller looks out across the Australian outback landscape at Sturt National Park, a remote arid area in the north western corner of the state of  New South Wales. The mesas that rise from the vast stony plains and that are referred to as  ' jump ups ' were once islands in an extensive inland sea that covered this part of Australia.
