075    The Australian outback landscape at Sturt National Park, a remote arid area in the north western corner of the state of  New South Wales, appears inhospitable and uninviting, yet lures visitors who are eager to see the most barren face of the inland wilderness of Australia. The mesas that rise from the vast stony plains and that are referred to as  ' jump ups ' were once islands in an extensive inland sea that covered this part of the continent.
