spinifex grass, triodia species in bladensburg national park in western queensland outback australia

Bladensburg National Park IMG 8264 - Only the toughest of plants survive a severe drought in outback Australia, and this spinifex grass, a Triodia species, is one of the toughest there is. These spiny clumps of grass, which are often referred to as 'porcupine grass' or 'tussock grass', provide wildlife, such as lizards and small mammals, with shelter from the heat and from predators. This scene was photographed in Bladensburg National Park, which is approximately 20kms south of the town of Winton in western Queensland.
