entrance to glow worm tunnel at newnes nsw

Glow worm tunnel at Newnes IMG 8879 - The forests surrounding the area where the town of Newnes once stood were the site of an extensive shale oil mining industry. The fascinating ruins of this little known era of Australia's history are hidden among the forests of the Wollemi National Park in NSW, and the curved tunnel that lies beyond this yawning entrance, and through which trains once passed on their way to the mines, has become a tourist attraction, for it's home to large numbers of glow worms.
