309   The narrow trail snaking through the mountains and forests of this Australian landscape is the old coach road that was once the only route linking the NSW town of Glen Innes to the city of Grafton that lies further east. The historic trail follows the course of rivers that flow at the foot of the ranges, and can still be used today by travellers seeking an alternative route between the two urban areas, one where there is guaranteed to be less traffic than on the major highway that has replaced the old road, but is more rugged, more dusty, more bumpy, and infinitely more enjoyable.
