waiting patiently on the branch of a tree for a beetle, caterpillar, worm, or
insect that will be its meal to walk, crawl, or slither past. These Australian
native birds are members of the kingfisher family, and also feed on aquatic
insects and small fish, in addition to frogs, lizards, and
snakes. They do their hunting with minimal effort expended, and will
waiting with seemingly limitless patience for something edible to appear beneath
or close to their perch.
