BACK TO PHOTOS OF AUSTRALIAN NATIVE BIRDS AND OTHER WILDLIFE OF AUSTRALIA

D589E  Kookaburra waiting patiently on the branch of a tree for a beetle, caterpillar, worm, or insect that will be its meal to walk, crawl, or slither past. These Australian native birds are members of the kingfisher family, and also feed on aquatic insects and small fish, in addition to frogs,  lizards, and snakes.  They do their hunting with minimal effort expended, and will waiting with seemingly limitless patience for something edible to appear beneath or close to their perch.
